Bread leftovers

When you have a monster of a kid and stale bread… you make the most of it right?! I hate waste. Don’t buy it if you are not going to use it. So be clever and use it.

I had stale ciabatta rolls. More milk than I could use (rapidly expiring ), butter, jam, frozen berries and custard powder. Oh and eggs 🙂 What to make? Oh, eggy, bready, custardy, berry goodness. Never done it before. Gave it a crack. I think sometimes, pushing your self is a good thing. Fail or succeed. I tried. You win some, you loose some. That is how it is. That is life.

Halved the rolls and buttered with jam, layer in a baking dish.

Scatter with frozen berries (or fresh if you are keen to take a second mortgage!)

Repeat, with layers of buttered jam bread. Until your dish is full.

This is where it gets tricky. Eggs, custard powder, milk. Sugar. Depending on the size of your dish, you are just going to have to figure it out. Think I used 2 eggs, 2-3 TB custard powder, sugar, milk and a magic wand! Whisk. Vanilla would be a nice addition. More berries. Tip over bread. Let it settle and absorb the eggy concoction.

Bake at about 180. Watch. About 30 mins.
